Alpina already does a lot to the BMW underneath, so the gains here are about polish: smoother delivery, more torque where you use it and a car that feels a touch more alive. Because many Alpinas are all-wheel drive, our 4WD dyno measures them properly with every wheel driving, before and after the map goes in. The D3, D5 and XD models use twin and triple-turbo diesels with huge torque from low revs. A remap sharpens how quickly that torque arrives, which you feel most when overtaking or towing, and the ZF automatic can be set up to suit through our gearbox remapping.
From the B3 to the flagship B7, the petrol Alpinas are fast in standard form. A careful map improves throttle response and pull at the top end while keeping the smooth, quiet manners Alpina owners pay for.
